Overview
St. Johns County offers both on and off-beach parking options for beach access.
There are approximately 12 miles of St. Johns County Beaches that allow for vehicular access. Beach driving is permitted year-round. However, vehicular access is dependent on beach conditions — weather, sand, or tides may cause ramps to temporarily close or limit access to 4 Wheel Drive vehicles. Daily driving conditions are posted to our Facebook and X accounts (follow SJC Beaches), on theSJC Connect App and on theBeach Driving Updates webpage.
From March through September, vehicles are required to purchase a beach driving pass. During the months of May through October, access is limited to the hours of 8:00am to 7:30pm. Daily and annual beach passes may be purchased from the toll attendants at the access ramps. Beach Driving Access

Sea Turtle Nesting Season Begins May 1
Sea Turtle Nesting Season begins May 1, and St. Johns County officials are asking residents, visitors, and businesses to help protect natural habitat by observing all nesting season laws and regulations. The beaches of St. Johns County are home to several species of endangered or threatened sea turtles. From May 1 to Oct. 31, St. Johns County staff will close vehicular beach access gates at 7:30 p.m. and reopen them at 8 a.m. to allow nesting sea turtles to have a safe beach throughout the night.
Annual Beach Driving Passes On Sale Now
St. Johns County resident passes are $50, non-resident passes are $100 and ADA-accessible passes are $40.

With over 40 miles of scenic coastline, St. Johns County beaches offer some of the best recreational and wildlife viewing opportunities in the beautiful State of Florida. Just minutes from the historic district of downtown, St. Augustine residents and visitors can park off-beach and walk, sunbathe, fish or enjoy wildlife viewing along endless miles of pristine coastline or park directly on the sand and enjoy a dip in the surf near one of the several staffed lifeguard towers.
Our beaches have several miles of coquina and white soft sand beaches, set against a backdrop of natural dunes topped with sea oats. SJC Beaches are a popular location to hold special events such as weddings, parties, marathons and other events of similar nature.
