Anthony W Steve Sandvoss started with Latter Days in 2003, a story about a gay Mormon. 2003 was a time when it was very important to tell stories about gay characters and the process of coming out. It was a well told story, even straight audiences could enjoy and relate to.In 2008, I expected him to tell a story about coming out as a polyamorous person. This story however missed that mark in an epic way. It ultimately tells the story of how people want and need monogamy and marriage but fear commitment and that polyamory is just a symptom of that fear. It views polyamorous people as people with secrets who lie to themselves and each other. The righteous characters are the ones who bring these wayward souls back to the one correct path, the monopath if you will.Aside from being complete sanctimonious garbage, the characters and plot were engaging. I liked the camerawork despite the low budget. It was humorous, silly, sexy and serious exactly when it needed to be. It kept me guessing until the end. I wasn't sure how these characters would resolve their drama. The ending was bittersweet yet realistic for the world it was trying to paint.Would I recommend this? Yes. I think it's an interesting thought piece. I think it stimulates conversation. That's where its value lies.I don't think it's a serious look into humanity. You won't get the compassionate representation of polyamorous people as you did with gay people in Latter Days. This movie had a Fling with polyamory and that's about it. How many lives will be destroyed if a couple has an "open" relationship? I'll have to think about it. I love this story! So much potential for heat. I see tons of kissing, and sex, and kissing, and sex. Lots of it. And I want to film it in a voyeuristic, organic, shaky way. But high quality production.PRODUCER: Hell, yeah! With all this sex going on, let's be sure to have really cool, beautiful actors. We want to see them hooking up.WRITER: But the audience has to see the pain it causes. Anyone that's in a relationship with one person, and wishing they were with another person will understand.PRODUCER: The characters have to be really, really cool. The cool, popular, beautiful, successful young adults crossing into adulthood, and taking "being cool" in a relationship too far. Open relationships never work out. The brain can't take it.
